Rochester, NY - Thanks to a goal midway through the second half from senior Hilary Mosher (Hilton, NY), the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team is off to its best start since 2001, having extended its modest season-opening winning streak to three games with a 1-0 victory over St. John Fisher College Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Knights moved to 3-0 for the first time since 2001 when the Green and Gold started off the year with four straight victories. St. John Fisher fell to 0-2. Clarkson will look to match the 2001 start on Tuesday when it faces regional power Plattsburgh State.
Following a scoreless first half, the Golden Knights got all the scoring they would need with just over 20 minutes to go. Senior Hilary Mosher came through with a strong individual effort in beating several St. John Fisher defenders en route to the cage and scored her first goal of the season when she was able to hit a strong ball past Cardinals' keeper Noel Peck. The unassisted marker pushed Clarkson's scoring advantage over its opponents this season to 5-0.
Freshman goalkeeper Brianna Thibeau (Salem, NY) made three saves for her third consecutive shutout, while Peck was called upon for just the single shot on goal that made it past her. St. John Fisher held a small 9-8 advantage in shots, but Clarkson led 3-0 in corner kick chances.
