Plattsburgh, NY - Three of the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team's starters combined for 56 points, but the Golden Knights needed just a bit more as they fell for the first time in 2010-11 in a 75-70 loss at Plattsburgh State Tuesday night.
Both teams moved to 3-1 on the young campaign. Clarkson will return to action next Tuesday when it hosts Paul Smiths College.
The Golden Knights ran out to a quick lead in the first half and enjoyed a 20-12 lead midway through the first period, but Plattsburgh went on a 13-2 run over five minutes, taking a small lead into the break, 38-33. In the second half, Clarkson rebounded to take the lead, but the Cardinals once again reclaimed the advantage, pushing their lead to double figures on a few occasions. Though Clarkson would trim the margin to a managable differential, the Knights could never break through before falling by five points.
Senior Jonathan Hood (Cortlandt Manor, NY) fell a single point shy of his career-high with 20 points, while junior Felix Llanos (Queens, NY) bested his previous high by recording 19 points. Senior Rey Jeffreson (Budd Lake, NY) added 17 points, just a field goal shy of his previous best. The remainder of the team combined for only 14 points. Four players finished in double figures for Plattsburgh.
