Geneva, NY - With injuries piling up and a pair of ejections from Saturday decimating the defense, the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to Hobart College Sunday afternoon, ending the hopes of a Liberty League playoff spot for the Golden Knights.
Clarkson, with two games remaining on the schedule, saw its record evened at 6-6-2 overall while falling to 1-5-0 in conference games. Hobart improved to 7-6-3 overall and 1-4-1 in league contests.
The untested defense was provided with a rude start to begin the contest as Hobart scored twice in the first five-plus minutes. Justin Dotzman tallied at 4:38 for the Statesmen, and Shayan Mosavi picked up a goal just 47 seconds later at 5:25. Hobart finished off its scoring midway through the half when the Statesmen were awarded a penalty kick at 27:42, where Kevin McCarthy deposited the ball into the net for a 3-0 lead.
Clarkson trailed narrowly in shots, 16-13, but was held without a corner kick in the contest. Saverino Spagnolo (Ottawa, ONT) made five saves in his second start of the season for Clarkson, and Charlie Hale made a pair of stops for Hobart.
