Glens Falls, NY - JP Phaneuf (Montreal, QUE) won all four of his runs to win the giant slalom and slalom events as the Clarkson University Alpine Ski team won three of the four team events at the USCSA Mideast Regional Championships held at West Mountain.

The Golden Knights took first in both the men's and women's giant slalom, winning by wide margins in both, while the women's team repeated its title in the slalom. Clarkson's men survived a few falls in the slalom to still take second place among the 11 teams. The Knights will move on to the USCSA National Championships in Sun Valley, Idaho during early March.

Saturday's giant slalom was dominated by the Knights, as the men's team won by 10 seconds and the women won by more than seven seconds. Phaneuf won by more than a second over all of the other skiers, finishing in 1:42.62. Classmate Cedrik Proteau-Dubois (St. Adele, QUE) came in second in 1:43.74 and David Simon (Montvale, NJ) rounded out the scoring for Clarkson with a seventh-place showing. Freshmen Christian Perryman (West Lebanon, NH) and Matt Bonner (Killington, VT) placed 10th and 12th, respectively, as all five skiers finished in the top quarter of the 48 skiers. The women's team was nearly as impressive on the opening day, as four of the five skiers finished in the top six. Junior Sophie LeBlanc (Cumberland, ME) topped the Clarkson downhill participants with a time of 1:52.94, finishing second overall. Classmate Jill Clevenger (LaGrangeville, NY) finished fourth with a time of 1:54.45 and senior Meghan Cleason (Canandaigua, NY) took fifth in 1:55.35. Freshman Emilie Garand (Yarmouth, ME) placed sixth, while classmate Sarah Shafer (Petoskey, MI) came in 32nd.

The slalom proved to be a bit more of a challenge for the Clarkson skiers, as the women won by four seconds and the men fell behind the top team by four seconds. LeBlanc came in second again in the slalom in 2:00.23, while Cleason took sixth in 2:04.48. Clevenger and Shafer placed 10th and 14th, respectively, and Garand finished 36th. On the men's side, Phaneuf again won both runs to finish first overall in 1:46.69, but the rest of the Knights had trouble on at least one of their runs. Proteau-Dubois came in ninth in 1:52.73, Perryman placed 20th in 1:59.32, and Bonner finished in 2:27.74 for 33rd place.
