The St. Lawrence University men's basketball team dropped a 79-60 decision to Ithaca College on Friday night in the Burkman Gymnasium. The Bombers used 16 three pointers, including a game-high nine from Jordan Marcus, to quiet the Scarlet and Brown each time the home team made a push in the second half.

St. Lawrence falls to 1-4 on the season after the loss and will look to snap a four-game losing skid tomorrow against Elmira College. Meanwhile, Ithaca improves to 4-2 on the season.

Junior Garrett Sharlow led the Saints with 19 points including 17 in the second half, while classmate Ralph Temgoua had 13 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Meanwhile, Ithaca shot 52% from the field including 46% from behind the arc en route to the victory. Marcus finished with a game-high 29 points, including 9-of-14 three pointers, while both Chris Cruz-Rivas (16) and Andrei Oztemel (14) scored in double-digits.

The visitors came out firing from behind the arc early and often, as Oztemel and Marcus helped the team build a 10-point cushion, 22-12, midway through the first half. However, the Saints used a 9-2 run behind buckets by sophomores Kyle Miller, Nick Meunier and Temgoua to cut the deficit to three at 24-21 with 4:52 remaining in the frame.

Ithaca turned to its shooters, and they responded in impressive fashion. The Bombers closed the half on a 9-0 run to take a 33-21 lead at halftime. Oztemel and Phil Barera added two points each, while Marcus drilled a three pointer to cap the first half scoring.

Despite falling behind by 13 points early in the second half, St. Lawrence would use sound defense and quality offense from Temgoua and Sharlow to claw back into the game. The Saints used a 7-0 run to pull to within six points at 39-33, forcing a timeout from the visitors. The break in the action proved to be exactly what Ithaca needed, however, as the Bombers scored nine straight points including two three-pointers by Oztemel and another by Marcus to extend its cushion up to 15 at 50-35 with 12:00 minutes remaining.

Though St. Lawrence would get the lead back to nine points on two separate occasions, the Bombers continued to shoot well from the field and would not allow the Saints back into the game, running out the clock on a 79-60 victory.

The Saints and Soaring Eagles are slated to tip off at 4:00pm tomorrow in the Burkman Gymnasium.
