Potsdam, NY - Senior Katie Goldberg (Stowe, VT) scored a team-high 14 points, breaking the school's all-time 3-point field goal mark in the process, but her performance from the outside wasn't enough to lead the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team to a victory, as the Golden Knights dropped a 52-44 decision to Hamilton College Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Knights fell to 5-17 overall and 2-10 in the Liberty League while the Continentals improved to 8-12 overall and 2-10 in conference games. Clarkson closes out the regular season next weekend when it visits Skidmore and Union.
In the first half, Clarkson shot well from the perimeter, going 5-for-10 from beyond the 3-point arc, but those 15 points accounted for nearly all of the Knights scoring, as the team made just one of its 13 other attempts and had no free throws. Hamilton took advantage, pounding the ball inside to shoot nearly 50 percent in the paint. Lisa Olszewski scored 10 first-half points, going 5-for-6 from the floor, for the Continentals.
Early on in the second half, Clarkson pulled to within four points (28-24), but Hamilton ran off seven straight points to push its advantage to double figures. From that point on, the Knights began to improve their performance inside, but Hamilton continually had responses for all of Clarkson's small runs. The Continentals shot 14-for-20 from the free throw line, and also limited their miscues to just eight turnovers in the contest.
Clarkson's Chrissy Scanlon (Queensbury, NY) produced another double-double, scoring 12 points to go along with 10 rebounds, while Lauren Pluchino (Liverpool, NY) added in 10 rebounds. Goldberg had 14 points, shooting 5-for-9 overall , including four 3-point field goals. Olszewski finished with 16 points while Claire Hunsinger added in 12 points for Hamilton.
