Skidmore College pulled to within a half game of St. Lawrence University's baseball team, sweeping a Liberty League doubleheader in Saratoga Springs, 1-0 and 15-11 on Friday despite a six hit day by outfielder Carter Franz.

The Saints, 19-8 overall and a 12-5 in league play, lost their third and fourth straight games as Skidmore pitcher Zack Rudman pitched a four-hit shutout in game one, striking out seven, and the Thoroughbreds responded to a six-run Saint top of the seventh in game two with five in the bottom of the inning for their 15-11 win in game two.

Skidmore, 21-8 and 12-6 and the Saints will play another doubleheader on Saturday.

Carter Franz had three of the four Saint hits in game one and went three for four with four runs scored, drove in three runs and homered in game two. Khifer O'Connor was four for five with two runs driven in and rookie Mark Syron hit his second homer of the season in game two, driving in three runs.

Skidmore scored its lone run, unearned against Jason Conde in the third inning of game one. Conde allowed only one hit, struck out three and had a walk in the tough-luck loss.

Skidmore outhit the Saints 15-13 in game two and jumped out to a 7-0 lead. The Saints got three back on a Paul Piatelli double, O'Connor's double and a wild pitch in the third, but the Thoroughbreds had an immediate answer with three of their own in the bottom of the inning. Franz doubled in two runs, Jeff Kott singled home another and Syron hit his three run homer in the top of the seventh. Franz hit a solo homer for another run in the top of the eighth.
