The St. Lawrence University women's basketball team defeated Liberty League rival Clarkson University by the score of 55-49 on Tuesday night in Canton, NY. Three players reached double-figures in points for the Saints, who won their fourth straight game to improve to 7-4 overall and 3-0 in the conference.

"It's not every night that you can put the ball in the basket, but you can bring your defense every night," said St. Lawrence head coach Dan Roiger. "Tonight we did that, and it got us the victory. We played hard, ran good offense, and took good shots, but couldn't buy a basket all night long. But we hung in there, kept getting stops, and found a way to grind it out in the end. I'm really happy for the team tonight to win without its best game."

Senior co-captain Katie Edgerton led the Saints with a game-high 18 points and five rebounds, while senior Iris Santoni and junior Erica Spera joined her in double-figures. Santoni totaled 12 points with five assists, while Spera had 10 points and seven rebounds and was a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line. Sophomore Katie Abramski added seven points and six rebounds for the Saints.

St. Lawrence pressured the ball well in the opening minutes as Clarkson (5-4, 0-1) failed to get on the board until almost 6:00 minutes into the half. The Saints stretched their lead to as many as eight points before the Golden Knights battled back to take a late lead. Edgerton, however, made the half's only 3-pointer in the final minute to give the Saints a 21-20 advantage at the half.

The teams exchanged leads several times in the second half, though neither was able to gain a significant advantage. Following a pair of free throws by Edgerton at 2:42 to tie the game, St. Lawrence reclaimed the lead for good as it netted 8-of-10 free throws in the final minutes to earn the 55-49 victory at home.

The Saints forced 26 Golden Knight turnovers, including 18 in the first half, while allowing 14 of their own.

St. Lawrence will travel to Rochester, NY on Friday to take on RIT. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00pm.
