With a 2-0 lead after the first period at Colgate on Friday, the Clarkson Women’s Hockey team got off to a good start in its return to ECAC Hockey action, but the Raiders took advantage of their home ice at Starr Rink in Hamilton, NY and ran off five straight goals to gain a 5-2 win.
Clarkson took a 2-0 first-period lead with two goals by senior Melissa Waldie (Newmarket, ONT) 2:12 apart midway through the opening stanza. The Knights’ leading scorer, tallied her seventh goal of the season at 8:37 with sophomore Danielle Skirrow (Trenton, ONT) setting up the score with her first assist of the season. Waldie followed at 10:49 with her 60th career goal with freshman Jamie Lee Rattray (Kanata, ONT) recording her team-high eighth assist of the year.
Colgate began its comeback with a dominating effort in the middle frame. The Raiders outshot the Knights 18-1 in the second period and tallied two goals in a 30 second-span late in the stanza to even the score. Jenna Klynstra tallied on the power play at 15:47 and Jocelyn Simpson made it 2-2 after 40 minutes of play.
Colgate continued its roll early in the third when Rachel Walsh connected for the game-winner 1:22 into the period.
The Raiders added two more goals late in regulation to complete their win.
Senior Lauren Dahm (Baldwinsville, NY) made 29 saves for the Knights as Colgate held a 34-15 advantage in shots.
