Over the past decade, the Clarkson University Baseball team has had some talented players on its roster, including some that went on to play professionally in the independent leagues. None, however, have created pre-draft buzz like junior Jerry Coleman (Potsdam, NY), who was named as the second overall draft prospect in all of Division III Baseball by Baseball America, the top amateur/minor league publication in the industry.
Coleman's performance over the past two seasons, coupled with numerous invitations to workouts with a number of professional organizations, has pushed his name to the forefront in the scouting community. Being selected by Baseball America, which does exhaustive research with scouts throughout the country, as one of the top prospects in Division III certainly won't quiet things down for Coleman in the coming months.
Coleman, who has played virtually every position for the Golden Knights in the past two seasons, is a career .368 hitter with a .551 slugging percentage. Last season, he hit .359 with six home runs and was a perfect 10-for-10 in stealing bases. He was chosen as a Liberty League Second-Team All-Star as a freshman when he primarily caught for Clarkson, and was named a Liberty League First-Team All-Star as a sophomore infielder/outfielder in 2010.
