Clarkson women's unbeaten streak comes to an end with loss to Dartmouth

The lengthy unbeaten streak for the Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team came to an end at seven games (4-0-3) on Saturday afternoon as Dartmouth College defeated the Golden Knights 3-1 in ECAC Hockey action at Cheel Arena.

Suffering its first loss since mid-January, Clarkson stands at 11-14-6 overall and is in eighth place in the ECAC Hockey standings with an 8-7-4 record. The Knights close out the regular season with three straight road games, beginning with this Tuesday’s game at North Country rival St. Lawrence. The Knights will faceoff against the Saints at Appleton Arena in Canton beginning at 3:30. The game will be broadcast over the radio and internet by WQTK 92.7 FM.

As in the previous three games, Clarkson took the initial lead against Dartmouth (17-9-0, 13-7-0) when three freshmen teamed up for the opening goal. Carly Mercer (Exeter, ONT) put the Knights on the scoreboard first at 6:19 of the opening frame when she finished off a perfect pass in front from classmate Vanessa Gagnon (St. Constant, QUE) for her seventh goal of the season. Rookie defenseman Vanessa Plante (Riviere-du-Loup, QUE) also assisted.

The Big Green answered back, however, with the final three goals to gain their third straight victory.

At 11:24 of the first, Dartmouth tied it up with a 2-on-1 rush as Reagan Fischer converted off an assist from Kelly Foley. Jenna Hobeika also gained an assist.

The Big Green took controlled in the middle frame, outshooting Clarkson 10-3 while grabbing a 2-1 lead. Sasha Nanji put the visitors in front, scoring from the slot through a screen for her 13th goal of the year at 10:56.

The Big Green sealed the win with an empty-net goal from Kelly Foley with 1:17 remaining.

Dartmouth outshot Clarkson 33-20. Senior Lauren Dahm (Baldwinsville, NY) posted 30 stops for the Knights while Lindsay Holdcroft posted 19 saves to gain the win. The Big Green was 0-of-6 on the power play while the Knights went 0-of-4 with the man-advantage.
