The Clarkson University Women’s Lacrosse team put up a good fight against national powerhouse Hamilton College on Saturday, but the second-ranked Continentals proved to be too much for the Golden Knights and doubled up the Green and Gold 14-7 on a rainy afternoon in Liberty League play at Hantz Turf Field.

Hamilton (10-1, 4-0 Liberty League) jumped out to a 4-0 lead and took a 9-3 advantage into the half. Clarkson played the Continentals fairly even over the final 30 minutes with the visitors outscoring the Knights by just one goal, (5-4) in the second half.

Sophomore Alyssa Cristaldi (North Syracuse, NY) paced the Knights’ offense with two goals and one assist. Junior Saryn Campbell (West Bolton, VT) and sophomore Katie VanDeValk (Baldwinsville, NY) chipped in two goals apiece. Freshman Marissa Mastronardi (Cortland, NY) rounded out the Clarkson attack with one goal.

Rachel Friedman led the Hamilton charge with five goals and one assist.

The Continentals dominated shots, 45-11, and groundballs 32-13. Campbell excelled on draws controls for the Knights, winning seven. Junior Hannah Walters (Amherst, NH) posted 21 saves and picked up a team-high three groundballs.

Clarkson, at 1-9, 0-6, closes out the season on the road next weekend playing at conference foes Vassar and Rensselaer.
