Saratoga Springs, NY – Down to just seven players due to several season-ending injuries, the Clarkson University Women’s Basketball team held its own against Skidmore College, but a long second-half scoring draught sent the Golden Knights to a 55-41 loss against the Thoroughbreds Saturday afternoon.

Clarkson closed out the regular season with a record of 5-19 overall and 2-12 in the Liberty League, while Skidmore finished at 12-12 overall and 8-6 in the conference, a game out of the playoffs.

Though Clarkson wouldn’t score its first basket until 4:29 had expired from the opening half, Skidmore had equal trouble shooting. Clarkson found its rhythm midway through the half, enjoying a 10-2 run in less than three minutes to claim a 22-14 lead with 6:48 to go. However, Skidmore responded with a similar streak of its own (11-3) to tie the game back up 25-25 before settling back by a basket at the intermission.

A near five-minute run without scoring would have been welcome in the second half for the Knights, as Clarkson was held to just four free throws in the first 11-plus minutes. Normally such a streak would doom any team, but the Knights first make of the second half, a 3-pointer from Katie Goldberg (Stowe, VT) brought them back to within just six points (42-36) at the 8:23 mark. Unfortunately, Clarkson would make just two more shots in the half, shooting 3-for-25 from the field, before bowing to the Thoroughbreds at the final buzzer.

Goldberg finished with a game-high 14 points, making four 3-pointers to extend her all-time Clarkson mark to 154. Senior Sierra Noles (Averill Park, NY) nearly produced a double-double in her final game, scoring 13 points to go along with nine rebounds. Classmate Lauren Pluchino (Liverpool, NY) was slowed by injuries and registered just three points, but she did grab nine rebounds as well.
