Clarkson women battle St. Lawrence on Tuesday to start final week of the regular season

A busy week marks the end of the regular season for the Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team. The Golden Knights, guided by third-year co-head coaches Matt and Shannon Desrosiers, and assistant coach Matt Kelly, play three road games, beginning with Tuesday’s contest at archrival St. Lawrence University, faceoff at 3:30 p.m. at Appleton Arena in Canton, NY. The game will be broadcast live over the radio and internet by WQTK 92.7 FM.??Clarkson owns an 11-14-6 overall record and holds down sixth place in the ECAC Hockey standings with an 8-7-4 league mark. The Knights, who are looking to lock up one of the top eight spots in the conference standings in order to advance to postseason play, are two points ahead of Colgate and Rensselaer and have a game in hand on both the Raiders and Engineers. The Green and Gold are four points out of fourth place (the final home-ice position in the playoffs) with a game in hand on every team above them in the standings. The Knights plays their final regular-season games in NY’s Capital District, facing Rensselaer in Troy on Friday and Union in Schenectady on Saturday.

A lengthy unbeaten streak came to an end at seven games (4-0-3) for Clarkson this past Saturday when the Knights lost to Dartmouth 3-1 at Cheel Arena. On Friday, Clarkson skated to its third consecutive tie with a 3-3 draw against 10th-ranked Harvard in Potsdam.

Senior Melissa Waldie (Newmarket, ONT) leads the Clarkson offense with 21 points on 14 goals and seven assists. The Knights’ all-time leading goal scorer, Waldie has amassed 66 goals and 52 assists for 118 points through 143 career games. Freshman Jamie Lee Rattray (Kanata, ONT) leads Clarkson’s talented rookie class with 19 points, including a team-high 14 assists.

Freshman Erica Howe (Ottawa, NY) has established herself as a solid Division I goaltender. Playing in 19 games, Howe posts a .926 save percentage and a 1.92 goals against average en route to a 7-4-5 record, including one shutout. Clarkson’s all-time winningest goaltender, senior Lauren Dahm (Baldwinsville, NY) holds a .920 save percentage, a 2.59 GAA and a 4-10-1 record, including one shutout, through 15 starts. Dahm boast a career record of 49-35-12 and is tied for the Clarkson shutout mark at 20.

St. Lawrence has lost three straight, all by one goal, and is just 1-5 over its past six games. The Saints are in ninth place in the league standings, two points out of seventh, with an 8-11-0 ECAC Hockey mark. Overall, St. Lawrence stands at 13-16-2. The Saints were swept at home this past weekend, losing a pair of 3-2 games to Dartmouth and Harvard.

The Series:

St. Lawrence leads the all-time rivalry against Clarkson 12-7-3, but the Knights have had the upper hand recently and are riding a four-game unbeaten streak (3-0-1) over their Route 11 neighbors. Clarkson is 5-2-1 against St. Lawrence the past two seasons. The North Country rivals have played three times this season. The teams skated to a 1-1 non-league tie at Cheel Arena on October 15. Clarkson won its first ever game at Appleton Arena the following night with a 3-2 come-from-behind victory. On November 16, the Green and Gold skated to a 4-1 ECAC Hockey victory over the Saints at Cheel Arena.
