Clarkson swimmers enjoy best day yet at UNYSCSA championships

Webster, NY - Four different individuals finished in the top 20 in their respective events Friday evening as the Clarkson University Swim team had its best results on the third day of the UNYSCSA Championships held at the Webster Aquatic Center.

Through 29 events, the Golden Knights' men are ninth among 13 teams with 247 points, while the women are 14th of 14 teams with 112 points. The regional meet concludes on Saturday.

Three Clarkson swimmers qualified for the finals in the 200 butterfly, with sophomore Sean Parnett (Clifton Park, NY) finishing as the top performer for the Knights with a time of 2:03.48, good for 18th place in the event. Senior Brendan Hofler (Glen Gardner, NJ) followed Parnett in 19th and junior Aaron Kreher (Clarence, NY) took 24th to earn points for Clarkson. Another pair of Clarkson teammates placed in the top 20 in the 100 backstroke as Mike Rowe (Glenville, NY) came in 12th with a time of 54.36 and Bob Stevens (Lakewood, NY) took 19th in the event.

Following those performance, Clarkson earned multiple tallies in the scoring column thanks to the teams in the 800 freestyle relay. For the men, Rowe, Parnett, Hofler, and Mitchel Maciuba (Clarence, NY) finished ninth in a time of 7:21.50, while Aaron Cubells (Hamden, NY), Liam Sharkey (Malta, NY), Nick Clemens (Lowville, NY), and Paul Telesca (Liverpool, NY) took 24th. For the women, Emma Bonan (Queensbury, NY), Nikki Pera (Jamison, PA), Kimberlee Stillittano (Binghamton, NY) and Colleen Daly (Manlius, NY) came in 13th in 8:38.49. The team of Elena Kuo-LeBlanc (Scituat, RI), Kelsey Jones (Kattskill Bay, NY), Katrina Smith (Ballston Spa, NY), and Courtney Karszes (Stanley, NY) came in 28th.

The top performers in the preliminaries in which the Knights did not place a swimmer in the finals were Stillittano, who took 30th in the 200 butterfly, Pera, who finished 26th in the 100 backstroke, Anne Hawn (Gouverneur, NY), who came in 30th in the 100 breaststroke, and Chris Plummer (Spencerport, NY), who placed 26th in the men's 100 breaststroke.
