Clarkson runs past Oswego State 19-8 in women's lacrosse action

Junior Alyssa Cristaldi (North Syracuse, NY) tallied six goals and 10 points and senior Saryn Campbell (West Bolton, VT) and junior Katie VanDeValk (Baldwinsville, NY) both reached the Century Mark to highlight the Clarkson University Women’s Lacrosse team’s overwhelming 19-8 victory over Oswego State in non-league action at Hantz Turf Field on Tuesday afternoon.

Ten different Golden Knights recorded points, including seven goal scorers, as Clarkson won its second straight game to improve its record to 3-2 overall.

Campbell scored five goals to reach 100 career points on 72 goals and 28 assists, while VanDeValk posted two goals and one assist to increase her career totals to 83 goals and 19 assists for 102 points.

Clarkson started out slow against Oswego (1-1) as the Lakers jumped out to a 3-0 lead just 2:13 into the contest. The Knights slowly started to take control outscoring Oswego 7-2 over the remainder of the half to hold a 7-5 advantage after 30 minutes.

Clarkson broke the game open in the second half with a five-goal spurt and tallied 11 of the first 12 goals in the period to hold a commanding 18-6 lead with 13:28 remaining. Cristaldi led the run with four goals and three assists in the second half.

The Knights outshot the Lakers 39-22, while Oswego held a 19-17 edge in ground balls. Senior Hannah Walters (Amherst, NH) picked up the win with nine saves on 17 shots through 56 minutes of play. Sophomore Kara DiNatale (Auburn, NH) played the final four minutes in the Clarkson goal and turned aside the only shot she faced. Campbell picked up a game-high five ground balls.

Junior Kerrie Cline (Tuxedo, NY) also had a big game offensively with three goals and two assists. Seniors Laura Barlow (Latham, NY) and Alyssa Dausman (Syracuse, NY) and freshman Abby Doyle (Syracuse, NY), with her first career tally, also scored in the victory.

Erin Cumming led Oswego with four goals and five points, while Rachael Raffa chipped in three goals and an assist for the Lakers.

Clarkson is now off until April 6 when it opens Liberty League play at Rensselaer.
