The Clarkson University Hockey team’s bid to clinch home ice for the upcoming ECAC Hockey playoffs will have to wait one more day after the Golden Knights lost 3-1 at Harvard on Friday night. Coupled with the loss to the Crimson, Brown defeated Cornell 3-2 in overtime to move with one point of the Green and Gold. Clarkson falls to eighth place in the league standings after Quinnipiac tied Union 2-2. At 14-17-2 overall and 8-12-1 in ECAC Hockey, the Knights can guarantee themselves home ice in the first round of the conference playoffs with a win or a tie when they close out the regular season on Saturday with a 7:00 p.m. game at Dartmouth. The Knights, who can finish from 7th-9th, can also clinch with a Brown loss or tie against Colgate.
Harvard (8-19-1, 6-14-1) scored twice on the power play and added an empty-net goal to hand Clarkson its third straight loss. After a scoreless first period, the Crimson took the opening lead in the middle frame with a power-play tally from Alex Fallstrom at 14:25. Just 34 seconds later, however, junior Jake Morley (Ogdensburg, NY) tied the game with his sixth goal of the season, finishing off assists from classmate Louke Oakley (Whitby, ONT) and freshman defenseman David Pratt (Napanee, ONT). Harvard regained the lead with another power-play score, this time from Ryan Grimshaw at 14:09 of the third period. The Crimson sealed their second straight victory with an empty-net goal by Alex Killorn with 40 seconds left.
Harvard, which was 2-of-4 on the power play, outshot the Knights 35-24. Junior Paul Karpowich (Thunder Bay, ONT) made 32 saves. Clarkson went 0-of-2 with the man-advantage.
