Potsdam, N.Y.—The State University of New York Athletic Conference has named SUNY Potsdam junior lacrosse player Carly Richards (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) the Player of the Week for the week ending April 3.
Richards scored six goals and assisted on two others for an eight-point week in games against Morrisville and Brockport. The performance moved her past Alisha Schaad ’08 to set a new Bears all-time scoring record with 165 points. Richards entered the season third on the all-time scoring list behind Schaad and Molly Lehman-Lewis ’10, but has scored 24 goals and recorded 10 assists this year for a team-leading 34 points. The junior now has 116 goals and 49 assists in just 40 career games.
"We knew Carly would be a program-changer when we recruited her,” said Potsdam Head Coach Lauren Bruce after Richards set the record on Saturday. “She always gives 110 percent and plays with heart. She has great competitiveness and a drive to win. It's very impressive that Carly's made her mark half way through her junior year. Her record will be tough to beat.”
The Bears (4-5, 0-1 SUNYAC) begin a four-game road trip at Oneonta tomorrow at 4 p.m. On Saturday, April 9, Potsdam heads to Geneseo for a 1 p.m. contest with the Blue Knights.
