The St. Lawrence University men's basketball team was narrowly defeated by Plattsburgh State 62-58 in the Burkman Gymnasium on Tuesday night.

The Scarlet and Brown fall to 1-3 while the Cardinals improve to 4-1.

"We continue to work to improve and are gaining valuable experience," said Head Coach Chris Downs. "We will be ready for league play in January."

Junior Ralph Temguoa had a game-high 23 points and nine rebounds for the Saints. Classmate Garrett Sharlow added 12 points and six rebounds, while recording three steals.

Leading Plattsburgh State was Chris Ruiz with 16 points followed by Carl Munnerlyn with 14 points.

Neither team was able to pull away in the first half. Sharlow knotted the score at 30 apiece with a lay-up with 11 seconds to go, but a 3-pointer at the buzzer by Plattsburgh's Steve Thomas gave the Cardinals a 33-30 advantage going into the locker rooms.

After the Saints tied the score 45-45 on a lay-up by sophomore Nick Meunier with 8:28 to play, Plattsburgh stretched its lead to 11 points behind a 3-pointer by Ruiz and a lay-up by Josh Bruno. The Saints were able to pull it to within two points with 1:01 left as first-year student Al Jones made the steal and the lay-up, followed by a 3-pointer by junior Kyle Miller to make it 60-58. Plattsburgh's Ruiz made two free throws down the stretch, helping the Cardinals to the slim victory.

The Saints will battle the Ithaca Bombers on Friday, December 3rd in the Burkman Gymnasium. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00pm.
