Four Saints scored in double figures as the St. Lawrence University women's basketball team defeated host Regis College, 67-60, in the championship game of the Park Lodge Tournament on Sunday afternoon.

The Saints improve to 7-1 on the season while Regis College falls to 6-3 on the season.

"I am very proud of the way we played against Regis," said Head Coach Dan Roiger. "We made adjustments to our defense and were able to take control in the second half. I thought we grew up today. We were very composed in a tough place to play and it was a great win for us."

Junior co-captains Casey Capello and Katie Edgerton led the Scarlet and Brown, recording 16 points and two rebounds apiece. Sophomore Erica Spera contributed a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, two blocks and a steal, while first-year student Kelly Legg added 11 points, eight rebounds, three blocks and a steal.

Regis College's Stephanie Crawford led all scorers with 23 points, while teammates Stefanie Wozmak and Sarah McNult added 11 and 13, respectively.

Both teams exchanged baskets for the majority of the first half until the Pride was able to take an eight point advantage, 21-13, on a three-pointer by Wozmak with under 6:00 minutes to play in the first half. The Saints were able to close the gap with two consecutive three-pointers by Capello and Legg and closed out the half tied at 29-29.

Both team's shot 12-for-27 through the first half. Edgerton had eight points, while Regis' Wozmak had nine points in the first stanza.

The Saints jumped ahead at the start of the second half, 40-34, getting baskets from Legg, Edgerton, and first-year student Cassie St. Hilaire.

Holding a 44-34 advantage, Capello would convert 1-of-2 free throws to give St. Lawrence their largest lead of the game, 51-40. Crawford would hit a three-pointer with under 6:00 left to cut Regis College's deficit to seven, 53-46.

With less than 4:00 remaining Regis College went on a small offensive run, however, another three-pointer by Capello silenced the home crowd and the Regis College rally, putting the Saints back up by nine.

A 6-2 Regis College run led by Crawford would once again close the gap bringing the home team to within three points, but consecutive jumpers from Legg and Capello would give the Saints a seven point advantage, 65-58, heading into the final stretch.

A free-throw by Edgerton with under a minute left in the game would put the Saints ahead, 67-60. After two missed Saint free throws, Regis College would commit a turnover at the baseline on their last possession of the game, allowing the Saints to run out the clock and celebrate a 67-60 win in the championship game of the Park Lodge Tournament.

Capello was named the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament, while Edgerton was named to the All-Tournament team.

The Saints will be back in action on January 4th as they travel to Brockport. Tip-off is slated for 5:00pm.
