Bouthot leads Saint men in 15-team SLU Invitational

St. John Fisher College shot back-to-back scores of 293 to take a three-stroke win over Waterloo of Canada in the annual St. Lawrence University Collegiate Invitational on the St. Lawrence golf course Sunday afternoon.

The host Saints finished sixth with a 619 total while a SLU Brown team finished ninth in the 15-team 79-player event. Clarkson finished 11th and SUNY Potsdam was 13th.

Just one of 79 players broke par in Saturday's opening round of the Invitational as St. John Fisher's Thad Wier III shot 34-37 for a 71 on the 6672 yard par-72 St. Lawrence course and the Cardinals took an early 10-stroke lead as Tyler McArdell and Joe Radulski each shot even par 72. Weir came back with a 72 on Sunday to win individual medalist honors with a 143 total.

Waterloo, which was third after the first round, shot lights out on Sunday to post a 284 total for the day and jump into second past Elmira College. James Kranz shot the low round of the tournament with a 69 in round two while Garrett Rank, younger brother of former Saint golf All America and hockey captain Kyle Rank shot 70. Jeansebastian Viau of Ottawa finished second in the medalist race with back-to-back even-par rounds of 72 for a 144 total.

Senior Adrian Bouthot was the top finisher for the Saints with rounds of 78 and 75 for a 153 total which was 20th in the field. Freshman Jack Reardon and junior Walker Steers, both playing for the Brown team, joined senior Ren O'Connor with 155 totals, all tying for 23rd. O'Connor shot 79-76, Reardon 76-79 and Steers shot 78-77. Reardon had the low round of the day for the Saints in round one with a 76 while Bouthot's 75 was the low round on Sunday.

Jeff Duggan and freshman Brandon Lustig tied for 30th for the Scarlet team with 157 total,s Duggan shooting 78-79 and Lustig 77-80. John Harris completed the Scarlet team scoring with rounds of 82 and 77 for a 159 total and tied for 39th. Brady Garrett shot 79-83-162, Pete Papyanakos shot 81-82-163 and Dixon Mallory shot 83-82 for the Brown team. Alex Kuno shot 82-92-174, Chris Lockwood 92-84 for a 176 total and Matt Barbuzzi 88-95 for a 183 total playing as individuals.
