POTSDAM, N.Y.- Buffalo St. (18-2, 11-2 SUNYAC) defeated Potsdam 58-40 on senior night. Barb Kiliszek and Bianca Smiley combined for 30 points and 13 rebounds while Kiliszek also dished out seven assists in the victory.

After the Bengals ran out to a 7-4 lead four minutes into the first half, Potsdam responded with a 10-0 run thanks to back-to-back three’s by Katy Briedis and Jessica Kouzan. The Bears would hold the lead for the next 12 minutes thanks to eight first half points by Sophie Parks who was determined to make the last home game of her career a memorable one. Briedis also had a strong half with seven points but Buffalo St. would put together two strong minutes of play at the end of the half and used a 6-0 spurt to take the 26-22 advantage into the break.

The Bengals came out of the locker room inspired and used a 7-0 run over the first five minutes to gain the momentum. Freshman Bailey Weigel hit a jumper to end the run and cut the lead into single-digits. Again the Bengals would respond with a 7-0 run which pushed the lead to 40-24. Sophomore Hannah Kmiecinski converted a three-point play to make the lead 13 with just under 10 minutes remaining but the Bear couldn’t find openings in Buffalo State’s stingy defense. Potsdam managed just 20 percent shooting in the half and struggled against the Bengals pressure.

Briedis finished with nine points to lead the Bears and Kaley Arsenault led Potsdam with seven rebounds. Arsenault and Parks were both celebrated before the game for four years of hard work and dedication to the program.

Buffalo St. shot 39.6 percent from the field and held a 44-35 advantage in rebounds while forcing 14 turnovers.

The Bears return to action on Friday, Feb. 10 at 6 p.m. when they host Plattsburgh.
