BUFFALO, N.Y.—Buffalo State (6-8, 2-5 SUNYAC) used strong goaltending early to hold off the SUNY Potsdam women's lacrosse team (5-10, 2-6) for a 9-7 win on Saturday afternoon. Senior captain Meghan Paige (Carthage, N.Y./Carthage) led the Bears with two goals and four draw controls and junior attack Lane Perl (Fulton, N.Y./G. Ray Bodley) added a goal and an assist.

Potsdam created multiple strong scoring chances in the first half, only to be frustrated by Bengals goalie Janae Nelson. Potsdam finished the first 30 minutes with a 16-14 edge in shots, putting 14 of them on goal. However, Nelson made 11 saves and the Bengals clung to a 4-3 edge at the break. Mary Musialowski scored twice and Jackie Dufresne once to give Buffalo State a 3-0 advantage at the 13:08 mark. Bears senior captain Cayla O'Connor (Dexter, N.Y./General Brown) closed the gap to 3-1 at the 11:22 mark. After Kendall Skuse regained the three-goal lead for Buffalo State at 1:52, Paige and Perl countered at 1:16 and 0:52.

The Bengals extended their lead to open the second half with a 3-1 run to take a 7-4 lead with 18:11 left. Nina Schaefer and Potsdam junior midfielder Zoe Morgenroth (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) traded the first two goals of the half, but Dufresne and Skuse opened up another three-goal advantage with back-to-back markers. Paige started Potsdam's comeback with an assist from Perl at 17:27. Shaefer scored her second at 15:30 to make it 8-5. Then, the Bears made their final push. Junior attack Miranda Kolb (Watertown, N.Y./Immaculate Heart) finished a pass from fellow junior attack Ashley Burrowes (Brentwood, N.Y./Brentwood) at 10:56 and junior midfielder Alexa Ferrer (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) scored at 6:17 to get the Bears within 8-7. With 1:33 to go, Shaefer clinched the game for Buffalo State with a critical insurance goal to close the scoring at 9-7.

Senior captain Katie Longamore (Dexter, N.Y./General Brown) finished with eight saves, while Nelson finished with 16 for the win. O'Connor had six ground balls and caused two turnovers for Potsdam, while sophomore defender Gabby Hobika (New Hartford, N.Y./New Hartford) and Ferrer each totaled two caused turnovers. Junior defender Kayla McCabe (Watertown, N.Y./General Brown) picked up five draw controls.

The Bears are back in action on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. when they host SUNY Canton.
