BUFFALO, N.Y.—The Buffalo State Bengals (11-10-3, 7-5-3 SUNYAC) scored a goal in each period to defeat the SUNY Potsdam men’s hockey team (6-16-1, 4-11) 3-1 in a SUNYAC contest on Saturday night. Senior defenseman Zack Juliano (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Valley Junior Warriors) scored for the Bears and junior goaltender Kevin McFarland (St. Louis Mo./Woodstock Slammers) finished with 24 saves.
Bengal Nick Petriello scored the only goal of the first period at the 12:15 mark to give Buffalo State a 1-0 lead. Juliano tied the score at 5:32 of the second period with assists from freshman defenseman Kevin Carpenter (Parker, Colo./Notre Dame Hounds) and freshman forward David Carr (Edmonton, Alberta/St. Albert Steel). Drew Klin put the Bengals back in front for good just 33 seconds later and Mac Balson tacked on an insurance goal at 10:45 of the third period.
Buffalo State goalie Kevin Carr made 22 saves for the victory. The Bengals were 0-7 on the power play and Potsdam finished 0-5.
Potsdam closes out its 2010-2011 campaign with a 7 p.m. match-up with North Country rival Plattsburgh on Friday, February 18.
