POTSDAM, N.Y.- The SUNY Potsdam men’s soccer team posted their second straight shutout of a SUNYAC opponent as they beat Oswego State (5-4, 0-3 SUNYAC) by a score of 1-0. Freshman Eduardo Figueroa scored the game’s lone goal and junior keeper Joseph Glackin recorded the shutout to keep the Bears undefeated in conference play.

The first half saw Potsdam outshoot the Lakers 8-5 but neither team was able to get on the board. The Bears (4-4-2, 1-0-1) had the best scoring opportunity of the half three minutes into play. Freshman Stephen Auyer broke away from a couple Lakers defenders and got a shot on goal but keeper P.J. Goodwin tipped it wide.

The second half featured Figueroa’s fourth goal of the season, which came 10:31 into the half and was the game-winner. The score was set up by a great pass from fellow freshman, Travis Jordan and Figueroa did the rest. The Bears had a great chance to add another goal later in the half, but freshman Chris Mack’s shot would hit the crossbar and Potsdam couldn’t capitalize off the rebound. Senior captain Chris Mack played solid defense in front of Glackin who recorded three saves for his second shutout of the season.

The performance left second-year coach Adam Parker satisfied. “This was a gritty game and whoever got the first goal was going to have an advantage, fortunately it was us," said Parker. "We have defended so much better and that is what is going to keep us in games.”

Potsdam will return to action tomorrow afternoon as they host the Cortland Red Dragons at 1 p.m.
