Five members of the St. Lawrence University women's lacrosse team had multi-goal games on Wednesday, as the Saints picked up a 14-8 win over Potsdam State in Potsdam, NY.

St. Lawrence, now 3-2 on the season, held a convincing 37-20 advantage in shots and a 19-5 edge in draw controls. The Scarlet and Brown got three goals from co-captain Alanna Piroli, Brigid Hurley and Hanne Bailey and two from Soeurette Morley and Mackenzie Collins. Sophomore Carly VanTassel had a goal and two assists.

Meanwhile, Potsdam State, which had a 15-13 advantage in ground balls, falls to 3-4 after losing to the Saints for the second time this season.

Despite a 21-8 lead in shots during the first half, the Saints went into the intermission with only a three goal cushion at 6-3. Leading 4-3 with under 2:00 minutes to play in the half, St. Lawrence scored back-to-back goals only 36 seconds apart to push the advantage to 6-3. Morley scored her second of the first half with 1:15 to play in the stanza, while Hurley capped the scoring with 39 seconds left to take the momentum.

Potsdam State remained in striking distance early in the second half, cutting the lead to two at 7-5 on a goal by Whitney Boshart at 11:31. However, a four goal run by the visitors would push the lead to six at 11-5, as Piroli and Hurley both scored a pair.

The Bears would answer with two straight goals to keep their hopes of a rally alive, but three straight goals by the Saints would put the game away with just under 4:00 minutes remaining. Collins scored two goals, including one on a free position try, while Piroli added her third of the contest. Margaret Wall capped the game's scoring for Potsdam State, bringing the non-conference game to its final of 14-8.

Potsdam State, which fell to St. Lawrence in West Palm Beach, FL on March 15 by the score of 20-9, was done in by 17 turnovers. Kaci Milligan made 14 saves for the Bears in a losing effort, while senior co-captain Paige Powell made five stops for the Saints.

St. Lawrence will host Geneseo State in the 2012 home opener at Hall-Leet Stadium on Saturday, March 31. The Saints and Blue Knights are scheduled to get underway at 2:00pm.
