All season long, the Clarkson University Volleyball team was looking for a signature win, and the Golden Knights got it against UMass-Boston, one of the top teams in the East. Standout performances from junior Sara Artus (St. Regis Falls, NY) and freshman Holly McDaniel (Hacienda Heights, CA) against the Beacons earned the duo Liberty League Weekly honors on Monday.
Artus, who shared the honor of Liberty League Co-Performer of the Week with another player from Skidmore, was named to the Judges Classic All-Tournament team and struck for 66 kills over the course of four matches during the week. The Liberty League's leader in kills and kills per set, Artus's best performance came against UMass-Boston, a team that came into the match with a record of 25-2. Artus had 21 kills and 11 digs in the five-set win. For the week, she averaged 4.12 kills per set and had a hitting percentage well over .300.
McDaniel, who gained Liberty League Co-Rookie of the Week honors for the first time this year, was equally impressive for the Knights, posting a team-best 21 digs in the victory over UMass-Boston. Overall, McDaniel had 51 digs in the three-match weekend at the Judges Classic, averaging 3.92 digs per set. She also had a pair of assists and recorded four aces at the high-level tournament.
