Troopers say driver fell asleep in Morristown gas station accident, fire
MORRISTOWN — A Morristown gas station that also held a Subway restaurant and Tim Horton’s was set ablaze after a vehicle crashed into the building Sunday.
Morristown fire department was on scene to extinguish the blaze, which resulted in no serious injuries.Akwesasne resident Shane S. Mitchell, 34, was traveling east on State Rt. 37 when his vehicle exited the roadway off the north shoulder.
Troopers say it appears Mitchell fell asleep at the wheel and tickets were issued, however details weren’t immediately available as the incident remains under investigation.
The vehicle drove through two yards, striking a utility pole and striking the gas station building where it came to rest inside the building.
Only one passenger was injured in the crash, with Garin T. Thompson, 14, being transported to Claxton Hepburn Medical Center for a facial laceration.
