Potsdam woman charged with forgery, larceny after allegedly stealing check
POTSDAM -- Emily C. Oakes, 31, of Potsdam was charged by the St. Lawrence County sheriff's department on Oct. 9 with second-degree forgery and petit larceny.
The charges followed investigation of a September complaint of a check being stolen, the sheriff's department said in a press release.Oakes allegedly stole a check and wrote it out for $300, forged the check owner's signature and deposited into her own account, investigating officers said.
Oakes was arraigned by Judge Matthew Denner in Oswegatchie town court.
She was released and scheduled to appear in Potsdam town court at a later date.
