PIERREPONT — A Potsdam man was arrested on arson charges Sunday following an alleged domestic dispute that took place on SH 56 in front of three children, according to St. Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies.

Jason T. Shumaker, 38, was charged with third-degree arson, felony, third-degree criminal mischief, felony, and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child, officers said.

Shumaker was reportedly involved in a physical altercation with the victim, and he threw numerous household items inside the residence, damaging them, officers said.

This all took place in front of three children, deputies said.

Shumaker then allegedly caused damage to a Chevy Malibu by breaking the windshield and denting the hood.

Deputies say Shumaker then set fire to the gas fill spout of a Ford F-150. Officers extinguished the fire.

Shumaker was arraigned in Pierrepont court and released on his own recognizance, officers said.

A no harass order of protection was issued for the victims, deputies said.
