POTSDAM – A Louisiana man faces multiple charges following a traffic stop on Main Street at 2:24 a.m. Thursday, according to Potsdam Police.

Shane M. Alviso, 51, of Lafayette, La., was charged with no tail lamps, obstructed plates, consumption of an alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle, driving while intoxicated, unlawful possession of marijuana and seventh-degree possession of a controlled substance.

Potsdam police say Alviso was stopped after he was allegedly driving with no taillights.

“A traffic stop was conducted on Main Street where it was found an open container of alcohol in the center console of the vehicle and a small amount of marihuana. Also, pills were found in the vehicle that were determined to be controlled substances and not prescribed to the defendant. The defendant was placed through Standardized Field Sobriety Tests which he failed. Alviso was transported back to Potsdam Police Department for processing. Alviso's BAC was determined to be .17%,” a report from Potsdam Police said.
