To the Editor:

“But we have to pass the bill so you can find out what is in it….” these words spoken by Nancy Pelosi nearly two years ago were just the tip of the iceberg that is Obamacare. Congressman Bill Owens, who voted for Nancy Pelosi as a speaker, also blindly voted for Obamacare, even though he had only been in office for two days and never even read the bill! As an older gentleman I worry everyday if my wife and I will have enough social security and medicare to pay for our medical bills that we are sure to encounter in the future. What scares me the most about this piece of legislation is that people, including our current Congressman, don’t understand the detriment it would cause to other programs to fund Obamacare.

When Bill Owens voted for Obamacare he voted to cut medicare by more than half a trillion dollars and increase taxes by over $800 billion and includes 21 new tax hikes over a ten year period! I have worked my entire life and was promised my social security when I retired, now this bill threatens to take away that promise. Not only will Obamacare take away from medicare, but it will also increase health insurance premiums for individuals buying private health care coverage on their own by $2,100 in 2016. It is this left-wing extremism that lead my wife to change her registration last year, and for myself, a democrat, to support Matt Doheny.
