To the Editor:
Has anyone thought what the “future” Town Board of Potsdam would look like if the Village of Potsdam dissolves? Because the Potsdam Village has more residents than the rest of the Town (including the Village of Norwood), the voting weight of the future Town Board would favor the Village of Potsdam.
Personally, I feel there is too great a difference of view between what the Potsdam village residents and the rest of the town residents want to be able to have one government.
The two universities in the Village of Potsdam influence many decisions for this village (both good and bad). I live in the Village of Norwood and these decisions concerning the colleges presently do not affect me much. The same would be true for most of our rural town residents.
In my opinion, dissolving the Village of Potsdam will only increase the tax base for the residences of the Village of Potsdam with no direct benefit for all of the other residences living in this township. The voting governing body will be controlled by the Village of Potsdam residents.
Unless this study proves to me that I will benefit from this dissolution, I hope that I can have the chance to vote no. This vote should not be left up to just the Village of Potsdam residents.
Robert C. Haggett, Norwood
