To the Editor:
At the Board of Elections in Canton about 2:30 p.m. today (9/22/10) the counting of the absentee votes for the Northern New York area was completed.
The results: Doug Hoffman 100 votes, Doheny 176.
The experience of watching this operation was very educational. There were almost 2,000 votes in action. These votes covered several different positions. Not all concerned the NY 23rd Congressional district.
The major problem was people did not think it important enough to get out to vote in a “primary election.”
Do you realize it is you voting in the primary election who determines who goes on the Ballet for the general election?
The part that impressed me most was the teamwork done by the six men and women doing the job. The quiet concentration, speed, precision and dexterity in flipping and placing each paper in its proper place without missing a beat was unbelievable.
Thank you ladies and gentlemen for your service.
To all you New Yorkers my plea is: Please take your responsibility this November 2nd.
Get out and vote!
Make this a higher priority the rest of you life.
Bettina Beckford,
Hermon
