To the Editor:
When winter finally arrived across Central and Northern New York last week, a lot of snowmobilers I know breathed a sigh of relief.
They’d been waiting for the white stuff to stick around long enough to cover their favorite trails.
A lot of my ice fishing friends felt the same way. The drop in temperature meant that their favorite fishing spots would soon be covered by enough ice to allow them to enjoy one of their favorite winter pastimes.
While some people dread the coming of winter, a lot of us see it as a time when we and our families can enjoy what makes our region a mecca that each year draws tens of thousands of tourists to our region.
Winter provides a lot of unique opportunities to those who are willing to enjoy going where others fear to tread.
Northern and Central New York offers a wide variety of activities to those who are willing to venture out to see why tourists trek here by the thousands. Here’s a few ideas:
- Take the family on a sleigh ride
- Go sled dog riding in Oswego.
- Try out downhill skiing at Jefferson County’s Dry Hill ski area.
- Watch a college hockey game at St. Lawrence University, SUNY Canton or
SUNY Oswego or enjoy some of the nation’s top high school hockey.
- Take up ice skating.
- Try out snowshoeing.
- Experience a winter wonderland by going cross country skiing
- Or take the family out to enjoy an evening of Syracuse basketball!
