Opinion: Write-in candidate for Lisbon Town Board seeks support

To the Editor:

My name is Patti Bartlett, and I am running as a write-in candidate for the Lisbon Town Board.

My family and I are lifelong residents of Lisbon, so I am familiar with the things our town has to offer. To name a few, we have a Librarian who puts a great deal of time and creativity into programs that are offered to our residents. We also have a Volunteer Fire Department which give their all, whether it be a fire or putting on a community event. We also have an awesome Highway Department whose supervisor and staff do a lot more every day than just maintain our highways.

When I first learned there was a vacancy on the board, two things happened. First, I learned that I had missed the new petition date, so I had to run as a write-in. Secondly, I started to attend Board Meetings so I could learn what issues we are currently facing, such as our Wastewater Treatment Plant and how we are going to maintain the plant in the most cost-effective way to our users.

What can I bring to the table for you? My 32-year work history includes extensive financial background which will help to ensure that your tax dollars are being spent wisely and appropriately. I have experience in auditing financial documents and policies and procedures to ensure they are being followed. I worked in Albany for a number of years overseeing statewide purchasing and procurement contracts. My overall concern during that time was your tax dollars and how they were being spent. If elected to the Town Board, you can be confident that same scrutiny will continue.

My opponent, Jeff Dumas, who is on the ballot, has not attended any board meetings. How is he going to represent the residents as they should be if he is unaware of what the current town issues are? If he does get elected, will he then show up for board meetings?

On the ballot, the space for write in candidates is at the very bottom. There are two columns for councilman and at the top and it states you can vote for up to two. Please write my name in either column at the bottom in the write-in section.

Your vote for me will ensure your voices and concerns are heard and that your tax dollars are working for you.
