To the Editor:

I am writing to express my support for Heidi Smith as our next Canton Town Clerk. Her great work ethic, pleasant personality and knowledge of the tasks required, make Heidi the ideal candidate for the job.

I can’t imagine anyone being more prepared to take over the myriad tasks of the Town Clerk’s office; especially given that she did those tasks for three years, as the Deputy Town Clerk to former Town Clerk Lisa Hammond.

While employed in the Town Supervisor’s office, I was privileged to work with Heidi. Whether collecting taxes, selling licenses, greeting and assisting customers, answering the telephone, or preparing documents; Heidi did it all both proficiently, and with great pleasantness! She respected the importance and confidentiality of the vital statistical documents she handled, prepared and maintained.

Heidi is very much a team player, and was well-liked; as evidenced by the 22 letters of support and recommendation from her co-workers and community members, that were submitted to the Town Council and Town Supervisor asking them to appoint her to complete the last year of Clerk Hammond’s term. Unfortunately, they chose to appoint their fellow board member to the Town Clerk position; which resulted in disruption and loss of revenue in 2021.

With the voters' support, Heidi will be returned to the Town Clerk’s office to carry on her dedicated service to the residents of Canton. Please join me in voting for Heidi Smith to be our Canton Town Clerk.
