Opinion: Vote Shirley for Louisville Highway Superintendent, urges local resident

To the Editor:

Please consider voting for Bill Shirley for the Louisville Superintendent of Highways position. I have been a friend of his for a long time and you will be hard pressed to find someone better for the job.

Bill has 29 years of experience while working for the New York State Dept of Transportation and has been trained and State certified on dozens of machines. He has also completed multiple safety courses involving the different trucks, tractors and tools used in Highway Maintenance. Plowing snow is just one of the many things he does daily on the roads to keep everyone safe.

Bill is often responsible for his own work crews and is able to get a job done in a timely manner, while keeping traffic and worker safety a top priority.

Born and raised in Louisville, he has spent his entire life loving this town. He has been married for 37 years and they have raised two children here. He was both a Boy Scout leader and minor hockey coach for several years here, a member of the Louisville Lions Club, and 38 years as a volunteer fireman. His name is even on the list of people involved with the construction of the Ray Hurlbut Arena years ago when he was a young man.

This is his hometown and he will say it with pride that he is from Louisville. His father, Uncle and cousins before him have owned businesses in town to serve the people here.

Yes, he could stay with the State DOT and do the same job, but he would like to spend the last phase of his working career tending to his hometown and working for the people here that make this small town great. He has no agenda of working a couple of years just to get management experience, and then move on to bigger things elsewhere. That would be deceiving and dishonest to the voters who put trust in those they vote for.

So, November 2nd, please vote for whomever you think would best serve your great town and remember, it's your hometown too.
