Opinion: Vote Engle, a natural leader, for sheriff, says Ogdensburg woman

To the Editor:

I am writing this letter to support Patrick Rick Engle for St. Lawrence County Sheriff.

I met Rick in January of this year after he announced his candidacy in the race for Sheriff. Since that time, I have had several conversations with him, and I have also observed him conversing with residents of SLC. He is approachable and relatable and can talk and relate to people on their level.

Rick possesses unique qualities that make him a natural leader. He is a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp allowing him training in core values such as integrity, discipline, and a duty to protect and serve. Leadership traits include decisiveness, dependability, and initiative. Valuable qualities necessary to lead a Law Enforcement agency such as the Sheriff’s Department.

Rick's current role in the Sheriff’s department is that of detective. As such, he is committed to serving and protecting with a higher sense of duty. As a detective, he analyzes complex problems using critical thinking skills to reach conclusions based on evidence, all while paying attention to details. Skills such as writing reports and courtroom testimony are paramount.

Rick has proven he is dedicated to the SLC Sheriff’s department given his 22-year history on the job. The endorsements he has received from his colleagues within the department and from county law enforcement agencies are proof that he has earned their respect.

Taking all of this into consideration, I feel strongly that Rick Engle is the best candidate for SLC Sheriff.
