Opinion: Vote for better judge, not best politician, says Chase Mills man

In response to “Judge Candidate Addresses Speculation, Misinformation” which appeared in the Aug. 29 - Sept. 4 issue of North Country This Week: I was disappointed and a little angry to read the letter from Nicole Duve. She accused her opponent of fear mongering, and misinformation.

This rhetoric is currently being used in the presidential campaign, and does not need to be used in this local race for St. Lawrence County Court Judge. Nicole Duve is an excellent politician. She dresses like a politician; she speaks like a politician; she behaves like a politician.

She says we should vote for her because she has experience. I am very well aware of her experience. She has experience running political campaigns. She was elected DA twice.

However, what she demonstrated when she was in the office of District Attorney was poor judgment, shockingly lenient plea offers, an inability to run the office, and outright incompetence. When she ran for office a third time, her skills as a politician put forth an image of a successful, competent candidate.

She lost that election because the people of St. Lawrence County remembered her poor job performance. Many were angry or hurt because of the dire consequences of her incompetence for their loved ones.

It has been a few years since Duve was District Attorney, some may have forgotten, some may not know, but every voter should look up her name on the internet and know who they are voting for.

On November 3rd we will vote for a new judge. We can vote for someone who excels at being a politician but comes up short on job performance, or we can vote for someone who demonstrates sound judgment, compassion and knowledge, competence and transparency.

After the election, there is no need for a politician. What the people of St. Lawrence County needs is a good judge. If you vote for Greg Storie that is what you will get. He is fair, knowledgeable, and will serve the community well.
