To the Editor:
One can stand up for a reimagining of all of our institutions (not only law enforcement) in ways that help us achieve equal justice under law and simultaneously recognize excellent public service when it happens.
Today, I retrieved and sent to the Massena Police Department a video of someone kicking out another Black Lives Matter sign from my yard. Thanks to Lieutenant Cody Wilson, Officer Nicholas Belile and Sergeant Dustin Currier, the perpetrator was reportedly identified, found, and given a formal warning of criminal charges if repeated – all in under three hours.
I'm grateful for such lightning fast help.
I'm also grateful to two fellow civilians, Jamey Merkel and Jacky Ryan, for setting up the surveillance devices that captured the images sent to Massena PD.
