Opinion: Trump prosecution not witch hunt, asserts Massena man

To the Editor:

I’m back again.

Republicans are claiming that prosecuting former President Trump is politically a motivated witch hunt. This is an individual who has made statements such as “if you are a celebrity you can get away with anything. Grab them by the p***y”. Yet we should believe that he couldn’t possibly be guilty of rape and/or hush money payments.

He has as much as admitted to 6 January 2021 being a politically motivated insurrection by trying to switch the blame to former VP Mike Pence for not breaking the law and claiming the electoral votes were invalid so that he could remain in office. He and his lawyers have lied repeatedly that there were no classified documents at Mar Largo. Even going so far as signing a letter to the Justice Department and National Archives stating that there were no further documents, after the first batch was found, only to have a search warrant turn up additional documents. Yes, both President Biden and Mike Pence have had documents found at their residents and offices, they should also be held accountable.

The difference, they both fully cooperated and voluntarily turned documents over. Mr. Trump has multiple voice recorded telephone calls to Mr. Brad Raffensperger, Georgia election official, attempting to pressure Mr. Raffensperger to change Georgia election results “I just need 1170 votes”. It has been proven that the Trump Organization was “cooking the books” to hide benefits given to high ranking employees through checks signed by Mr. Trump himself. It has also been proven through banking and IRS records that the Trump Organization has committed fraud by assessing property value differently when filing taxes and applying for loans.

Mr. Trump claims that President Biden’s son profited from his father’s position as Vice President, but, neglects to mention his son-in-law’s $2 billion dollar loan from Saudi Arabia while he was serving as foreign affairs advisor to then President Trump. Mr. Trump claims that President Biden and his son have received $1 million dollars from Chinese businesses, but, neglects to mention his organizations $211 million dollar loan from the state owned Bank of China to finance his 30% holdings in the Trump Tower building, or his and his daughters 26 Chinese fashion patents.

There are mountains of evidence that Mr. Trump has committed crimes, been involved in shady business dealings and continues to provoke his rapid followers to protest fully knowing that they are more than willing to take their actions to the extreme.

The prosecution of Mr. Trump is not a witch hunt, it is holding accountable a man, who through his own actions, has been caught in multiple felons and the time has come for him to face justice. What’s the old saying “don’t committed the crime, unless you can do the time.” I welcome any Trump supporter to respond and provide me with verifiable proof that Mr. Trump should not be prosecuted.
