The Village of Canton and its zoning board had to enforce the current law meant to protect businesses, presumably bars and restaurants, from loss of commercial areas to churches.
These are no longer as relevant in these areas in today’s economic and marketing schemes.
The dollar stores, grocery stores and fast food places are sadly the places the working have to grub out their existence in the North Country in regard to shopping practicality and a place to get a blue collar job.
I say get a relevant zoning law on the books ASAP and quit paying the lawyers and plugging up the courts.
I find it ironic that the village didn’t have access to the Club Restaurant’s unpaid taxes until paid by CFC.
What are we afraid of? It’s time to move ahead now.
