To the Editor:
Many recent letters have been eloquently written in support for the Ogdensburg Public Library. The library is an important part of the community - truly for the common good and open to all.
Part of the reason the library has been put in such financial straits is because city leaders have failed to recognize the value of the library as a Co-Central Library (along with Flower Memorial in Watertown). That designation gave more money to the library which enabled more staff, more resources and more hours to be open. Now that special designation is gone because the city drastically cut its funding support for the library.
Although these are tough times, hopefully voters understand the value of the library and don’t want to lose it. Like the special designation, once gone, it would be difficulty, if not impossible, to get back.
On Tuesday., May 18, please go to the Ogdensburg Golden Dome and vote “yes” so that the Ogdensburg Public Library can continue to be a vital part in making the city a livable community.
