To the Editor:

The following is in reply to another letter that appears to be providing misinformation. Since being the Town Clerk for the past 20 years, I can tell you that there have been no Town plans to open roads to ATVs in the Town of Colton any more than there is in the near future. New York State has made it clear.

The parking lot at the Sno-Skippers is used mainly as snowmobile parking. ATV’s primarily use the Fish & Game Club for parking. I am not aware of any accidents reported in that area to date.

When it comes to speed limit changes on roads, I have to file form Te-9 Pursuant to Section 1622.1 of Vehicle & Traffic Law with NYS DOT requesting the change along with copies of Board meeting minutes. NYS DOT makes the decision, even on our local roads. The Town Board has only asked for speed reduction when a resident has requested it.

A promise to a neighbor of a job on the Highway Department is not an option. The Highway Superintendent makes his choice of hire and recommends to the Town Board to be approved since it is the Town that pays the employee.

Employees may be covered by the Union and documentation is necessary for any type of disciple or firing. Even then it would take a majority vote of the Town Board to fire that individual.
