Opinion: Retired SLC judge says Duve most qualified for position

To the Editor:

This Nov. 3 election presents the people of St. Lawrence County with a clear choice for St. Lawrence County judge. I am acquainted with both of the candidates; both appeared before me when I was St. Lawrence County Family Court judge.

Nicole Duve is the one candidate qualified for the very important position of county judge.

I have known Ms. Duve for over 25 years. I worked with Nicole when we were both assistant district attorneys. In the time that I have known her, Nicole has served as an assistant public defender, assistant district attorney, town judge, private attorney and as law clerk for county judges in two different counties, as well as St. Lawrence County’s district attorney.

During that time she has always acted with utmost integrity and professionalism.

Nicole is the candidate with the knowledge of the law, experience and skills required for the position of county judge. She knows that a judge must examine every individual matter before the court based on the facts of that case and make a determination under the law as it applies to that one case.

She also believes that everyone before the court must be treated fairly and with impartiality.

Nicole has spent the majority of her career in the criminal justice field. She knows the law. She will take an oath to follow the law and she will.

Please vote for Nicole Duve to be our next St. Lawrence County judge.

Barbara R. Potter

Retired St. Lawrence County Family Court judge
