Opinion: Potsdam Kiwanis express appreciations from 2019

Much has happened in our Potsdam Kiwanis Club during 2019. The annual pancake breakfast in early April, scholarship fund raisers for the Potsdam and Parishville High School Senior Scholarships programs, highway cleanup days, Fill Back-Pac, Swing Time Mini-Golf, Recruit and Recognition events; more scholarship support from Parishville Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary’ Italian Night (first Monday of the month) dinners, Head Start Reading Centers at both Potsdam and Parishville communities, assisting the Potsdam Fire Department with their “Rag-A-Muffin” parade and event, dispersing of Holiday Fund Gift Tags and collection of donations and gifts and also help wrapping them, and finally support from area news media (radio, television, newspapers and social networks) in our end-of-year programs and fund raisers, the Noteworthy Handbell Choir and local merchants who donated and supported with gift cards and material items for our events; and, the many, many patrons of the Roxy Theater and Chilly Delights, who generously gave their pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, half dollars and other currencies to the club’s Kris Kringle (aka Santa Claus) jugs with candy canes, that all go toward Potsdam and Parishville scholarships for graduating seniors.

The Potsdam Kiwanis Club members extend their appreciation to all those aforementioned and especially to the following: Barstow Motors, Inc., NCOC (North Country Oil Change), KFC Restaurant, Arby’s, Monro Muffler & Brake, Subway, Dunkin Donuts (Market St.), Roxy Theater (Dave R, Dave M, Emma & Abigail T and Bridget B), Chilly Delights, Pizza Hut, Ponderosa Steakhouse, Price Chopper, Tim Horton’s, Stewart’s Shops and two gift cards donated privately from Jackie Cullen of Save-A-Lot. Dozens of original Christmas Candy Canes were generously donated from the GM (Paul) of Hampton Inn of Potsdam and the GM (Mike) of the new Verizon Store, both on Market Street.

The Kiwanis members of Potsdam ask that you support in return those businesses, which have unconditionally supported organizational and club events in our communities.

As the New Year 2020 begins, from the Potsdam Kiwanis Club, we wish you a healthy, safe and Happy New Year and hope you may become one of our new members in 2020.
