Opinion: Ogdensburg Firefighters thank everyone who helped with Kids' Games

Recently, Ogdensburg Firefighters held our Ogdensburg International Seaway Festival Firefighter Kids’ Games. After a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, we were eager to once again host this event. With the cooperation of Mother Nature, numerous generous sponsors, and a group of dedicated volunteers, a wonderful time was had by all.

Local 1799 would like to extend our appreciation to those who helped allow us to continue this tradition. We would like to thank the following businesses for their generous donations; Cam’s for the pizza, Corner Deli for the subs, Pepsi for the drinks and ring toss game, Pizza Hut for the personal pan coupons, Stewart’s for the ice and the ice cream certificates, and Wal-Mart for their gift card donations.

The kids certainly enjoyed all of the goodies that you were kind enough to provide. Each and every child that attended was able to enjoy your contributions. We appreciate you partnering with us in this endeavor and look forward to doing so in the years ahead.

As firefighters we are intimately familiar with the importance of proper manpower. Whether fighting a structure fire, or putting on an event like this, having able and willing bodies to do the job is absolutely essential. Both the families of our members, and our extended fire department family, have always been critical in getting this whole thing off the ground, this year was no different.

First, to the Ogdensburg International Seaway Festival Committee for having us on their schedule of events; we are humbled to be even a small part of our city’s largest celebration.

Second, this year we were happy to be joined by members of the local Rotary Club. Your help was invaluable and we hope to have you back next year!

Third, to the wives and significant others of our members both past and present; you continue to be the backbone of this event, and so many others. Your constant support and consistent understanding of everything that comes with this profession is what allows us to do what we do, thank you all.

Finally, to the children, or “kids,” of Ogdensburg; simply put, there are no “Firefighters Kids’ Games,” without you. It was our pleasure to be able to once again give you a chance to put on this event. Your enjoyment of these games is the reason we do them. We hope you keep coming back as we look to make next year’s games the best yet!

In closing, Ogdensburg Firefighters would like to once again thank all of those we mentioned in helping with these games, and any we may have not. Likewise, we are always grateful to the continued support by so many people in our community. There are no words to express our gratitude we have toward all of you.

Thanks and have a safe Seaway Festival.
