Opinion: NNCS back-to-school event made possible by many, says event organizer
Summer is over and is now just a memory. Local children have returned to school, and fall is in the air!
The Community Lunch Program for Kids had a very busy summer. In addition to providing over 9,000 meals to children in the Norwood, Norfolk, Raymondville area, we also provided backpacks (filled with sneakers, socks, and underwear) for 120 local school-aged children. Working with Arconic, (who provided 48 backpacks with sneakers' socks and underwear) and NNCS teachers and retired teachers, as well as local civic groups and churches (who provided an additional 13 backpacks with sneakers, socks and underwear) we were able to assist 181 children get ready for a successful school year. Norwood, Norfolk, Raymondville Outreach provided school supplies for all the children. Our Back2school event held on Wednesday, August 28th at NNCS would not have been possible without the help and support of many local businesses, churches, civic groups and social service agencies.
