To the Editor:

Five words came to mind today while reading of Dr. Perez’ lawsuit against our local fire departments. Ungrateful, shameful, ignorant, hurtful and callous.

Dr. Perez, how ungrateful can you be? These brave men and woman came to your aid at three o’clock in the morning, out of their safe homes and warm beds to attempt to save your practice. You claim that they were negligent. Well I have a different opinion. You are the one who was negligent in not having insurance on your business and from what I am told it was your wood stove that caused the fire. Bad luck or negligence?

I’m not a fire marshall, but I don’t believe anyone else caused your wood stove to malfunction. You should be ashamed for unabashedly taking the communities donations to help you rebuild, and then file suit against the fire departments from the very towns that support you. Where do you suppose that money to fund them comes from? Clearly you are only worried about your own losses, but not worried enough about a potential loss to have insurance.

So many people from these communities also helped you in your hour of need with financial contributions and other various forms of assistance. Everyone believed you were such a “wonderful” Dr.

I guess you have shown your true colors. Perhaps after seeing them your support network might dry up, but I suppose you hadn’t thought about that.
